CAS-ual Fridays ” Kraft On”

Unaccustomed as I am to posting on a Saturday night but a cancelled dinner date , ( just as well as I am on a diet and its nil by mouth in the Gin department ) has given me the opportunity to rustle up a card or two. While tootling along through blog land  I noticed that my lovely blogging friend Jenny from Crafting in the Country is saying farewell to CAS-ual Fridays and as I love this  inspirational bunch of ladies and their fabulous cards I thought I would join in.

We are asked to use Kraft paper on our cards this week and as if by magic and I kid you not I had one whole piece ( that is the extent of my Kraft stash ) sitting in front of me on my desk and I don’t know how it got there !!!! Seriously I don’t , it’s not mine !!!! Well it is now cos it’s on the front of my card !!! Finders keepers !!!!

I cut some hearts in various sizes with my spellbinders using pages from an old book, the one piece of  ” found ” Kraft paper and some red felt.

I first went mad making little holes all over the kraft paper heart and then sewed all of the layers down the centre of the card leaving the cotton a dangling ! The sentiment is by Paper Smoochies and it is from set that I won from Jenny a while back so its quite fitting really. I actually held my breath as I did the sewing as I very rarely use my machine for cards and was afraid it would go all wobbly,  lucky for me I actually got a near straight line , phew ! Having said that as soon as I took a photo I got a tiny blob of glue ( now where did that come from !! ) on the front of the card so it is destined for the bin, unless anyone knows of DAS ( dirty and simple ) challenges that are looking for mucky kraft cards !

Please pop over to CAS-ual Fridays and see what the amazingly talented DT have come up with to inspire us all and there are tons of fabulous entries too.

  1. The girls are definitely enjoying themselves and can see loads of material on the shelves, so you must be a great seamstress……..
Loving your cute card, especially the pleated hearts in the centre.
Enjoy the weekend, hugs Annette xx

  2. Didn’t you do well. I am privileged to see some of your creations whilst in progress and I just knew I was going to adore this one. It turned out even nicer than I thought it would….and that’s saying something. I love the simplicity, the sewing but mostly your little heart book xxxx

  3. Your card is beautiful, Marie. Random dots of glitter glue are quite good for disguising blobs, as are sets of three gems. I am sure you will find a way to rescue it! looks like you had a lovely time with the girls.

  4. Aww thanks Marie, you’re so sweet :0) How lucky was that to find some Kraft… I bet it was left over from the mini-crop!! Wonderful design, all those layers give such dimension :0)
The mini-crop looked like fun, what an amazing studio you have * insert green eyed monster* :0)

  5. Beautiful, dear friend! I will miss you when you have to leave us for a bit–your designs are so inspiring! GORGEOUS use of book pages…I got an old book for this purpose a bit back and am still too nervous about destroying it to use it!!!

  6. Brilliant card Marie. Another fab design. Everyone looks like they were having fun or is that the gin taking effect! 🙂
    Regards Florence xx

  7. Love how you made the card with the stitching up the centre. Looks like everyone was having a great time and enjoying themselves.

  8. Fab card Maria – love the way you’ve used the book pages for the little heart book. The texture of the kraft, felt and book paper combined with the machine stitching is gorgeous. Have you tried using a rubber on the glue? It often works if you go gently. Looks like you had an amazing mini crop with the girls – you look to have a huge new crafting studio; I’m sure everyone is looking on wishing they had something like this!! I was a bit puzzled at seeing the letters on top of your cupboard spelling out TART &……………does this mean something else in Greek, or do you have something to tell us????? lol

    Hugs.

    Karen x

    • Lol !!!! Karen I was waiting for someone to spot this and you are the first !!!!I did it on purpose and none of them noticed. I change the words around everyday makes me smile anyway. In Greek tart means sweet pie !!! and no i dont have anything else to tell you cheeky beggar

  9. You all look as if you were having a ball Marie and for two pins I would have joined you! I love your beautiful layered heart card with all those gorgeous textures and that line of stitching. The Stampin’ Up adhesive remover makes short work of glue blobs – (and I should know!) It looks like the sole of a shoe but it works like magic! I’m a little shocked that Karen (above) should be starting another scandal about you but I do feel you should explain… Vicky x

  10. So what kind of tart are you – a jam tart (sweet and innocent – not likely!), a lemon tart (nippy!) or a bakewell tart (a bit posh and only served on special occasions!). Looks like you all had a whale of a time at your boozy retreat – I mean crafty crop. Impressive straight stitching there Mrs P – I too love the book heart. xx

  11. OH! I would love to have bben there to learn lots and lots off you, lucky ladies 🙂 (sweet tarts?)

I love your card. You are so so clever in making something so involved look simple down to the sewing on the Kraft background of the heart.

  12. This is fabulous! It better not end up in the bin. I don’t even see the glue. I hear ya when you are talking about sewing on your cards. I sew on fabric which we all know is very forgiving…cards, needle pierces paper, it’s a done deal. Thanks for playing along this week at CAS-ual Fridays! Looks like you had a blast at your crop!

  13. Hi Marie … Thanks so much for your visit (via Darnell), for your lovely comments and of course for following. Nuts is good … I’ve been working on it a while!! I’m about to follow you too … we’re both on WordPress … this should work like a dream (I think!). Oops … ‘that’ song … why is it they do that? I’ve had a wander and a giggle round your blog … so creative and inspiring … and your studio is something to covet 🙂 This card is delicious, the book pages are just brilliant, and I love the sewing. 17. Helloooooo :-), this is just gorgeous Marie, I love Kraft cardstock and it looks fabulous with the book pages and the beautiful red. Your craft space looks bigger than my living room Marie! I could just move in there instead? I went to have a natter with your sis on Saturday – she’s lovely! She didn’t tell me off either when I sat on her knitting :-(.

    Byeeee for now

    Maria xxxxx
