Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 70 No Cards, Tags or ATC’s

Phew !!!! trying to get this posted has been a real test of wills both mine and poor Lin’s the boss at Crafty Cardmakers ( thanks for all your help ) It seems that blogger doesn’t like Greece very much and has been influenced by all of the bad press the country is getting at the moment, anyway wont bore you with all of the details as I still have a bit of a headache !!!

Over at Crafty Cardmakers its time for a new challenge and a very interesting one too. Our hostess with the mostest is Carol and she would like to see anything but a card, tag or atc, it could be something you have sewn or knitted , mixed media, anything as long as it is not any of the above. Now when you see what I have made you will most probably wondered why I even bothered but here goes anyway.

For a while now I have been toying with the idea of art journalling but was a little scared to have a go, seeing carols theme for the next fortnight spurred me on so here is my first attempt a work in progress if you will…..dont laugh ok !

The background is made with various alcohol inks that I put into spray bottles and added water then went a bit mad with the misting.  Once dry I inked up a couple of Tim Holtz and IndigoBlue stamps and randomly stamped over the pages.  Using my Cameo I made some stencils with acetate and again randomly placed on the pages and used Gesso to cover them. Using a white Sakura gel pen I outlined some of the details. I think I need to relax a little more as looking at it now it looks a bit well …uniform, better luck next time.

As the challenge was for anything other than cards I thought I would make a little box as I wasn’t entirely happy with the above. I used some lovely paper napkins to cover the wooden box which I Mod Podged . I used it to store these paper fish bones that I made with my Cameo and added an eyelet for the eye .Now why would anyone want to keep paper fish bones in a box you may ask well…. when I have dinner parties I like to have a theme and usually make some sort of paper creation for the table. This weekend I will be having a little party and  I will be making Sushi so hence the little fishes . Each guest will have this together with their place setting,  so see there is a method in my madness. Oops nearly forgot to show the box !!!!

Do pop over to Crafty Cardmakers to see the other wonderful projects by my team mates and why not take part. We are once again generously sponsored by :-Di’s Digi Downloads

I would also like to share this with Moving Along with the times who are asking for anything other than a card.

Right am off to the gym , wish me luck as its in the high eighties today and its a 25 minute up hill crawl to get there, so hopefully I will be around to see you all later

Take care

Marie

  1. Hi Marie. Well if this is your first go at art journalling it is pretty impressive. Love how you have made your own stencils and used them on your project. Also love the colours and the high lights. Really make it pop. Wonderful work. Fabulous box. Very unusual. Great idea using the fish as a place setting. TFS. Enjoy your dinner party Mrs. Bouquet!! lol!

  2. Hi
I don’t Art Journal but always fascinated to see crafters’ journals and this is so interesting and looks as though you have been Art Journalling for years! You created fabulous depth to the spreads.
The fish bones are such fun – as always you have such attention to detail for everything.
    Have a wonderful week.
    Wishes
    Lynne

  6. Hiya Marie, well I can only admire the journel, definately a no no for me, but I always think what a fantastic job others do and yours is sooooo different from others I’ve seen, love the colours. As for the box, what a brill idea, to match your theme all nice and tidy the fish are great shape too.

  7. Cool! I love your arty journaling pages! I never tried it myself – I think the “process” of creating them is a little too messy for me – but I always love the results from others!!
And your “fishy box ” – sooo unique again !! I´d love to be there and taste your Sushi! 😉

Sorry my comment is late, but it seems as though the only comments that don’t end up in your spam are the ones sent from my PC. I think it may be when I use my iPad that they end up in your spam.
Isn’t the Cameo wonderful! You can create so many things with it. I love the templates you made…and why would we laugh? Your artwork look fabulous. Love the beautiful rich colours you used.

  17. Well Marie, I for one would never have guessed that this was your first go at journalling!! I love the techniques and colours you’ve used and I don’t think what you’ve achieved looks too uniform at all – it’s so interesting attractive to look at. I love it! Your box is fab, and that’s from someone that can’t bear to see fish unless it’s in chunks in a can, lol!

Blogger doesn’t like Liverpool at the moment either – been having terrible trouble posting and leaving comments. Are we meant to feel sorry for you ‘suffering’ in the heat, lol?! Roll on the 1st August and I’ll be in Kos !

  19. Good grief Marie, what a set of fabulous creations, I did miss some as we were at Filey over the Spring Bank week, needed a shower so thought better go to the East Coast, as we are on a water meter lol, but I have checked them all out and this set of fabulous creations as well. I wish I had half your talent. Especially love the colours on the Crafty Cardmakers challenge. See you have had a comment from Laurie, I have met her and she is really lovely person and I agree with her comments.
Hope you are ok and the problems are not affecting you too much.

    Kath x

  20. Oops forgot to say, no I don’t blame you at all for not going back for the other fillings.
Don’t know what the world is coming to, gas and electricity never been so high and we are still having to put our heating on in June for goodness sake.

  21. Hi There my crafty friend, You’ve made a beautiful page, for a first go this is really impressive, I love the shadowing on the hexagons nice:0) Lovely colours too. Your fishy box is amazing I love the way you think Marie, I’ll bet your dinner parties are loads of fun, excellent ideas you have! Well done on your visit to the gym, I’m impressed all over again xxx

  22. Hi Marie – I can comment now…..be afraid…..very afraid! ((Laughing))) Yo – love the journal its really most arty and do I spy a bit of Fornasetti in there with the eye? I am not everso sure about journalling, mainly because I am pretty shallow anyway and dont really have these deep meaningful thoughts ….would the word be….thick? Yes probably that does apply to me, along with very immature. Thats a good idea about the dinner party and the themes – what time did you want us round then – me and the banana? Cxx

  23. Please put this on your blog and say it is from me – I am sick and tired of not being able to comment on your lovely blog. This is one way I can do something. Please.

Oh Marie – you are a perfectionist! These pages are to die for! Seriously. I really thought the honeycomb effect was cut out and revealing the page underneath. Fab colours, fab everything.
